Each year the Methodist Church in Ireland sets aside Home Mission Sunday (15th November 2020) to focus on local mission and to raise money to support mission initiatives throughout Ireland. Yet, focusing on mission in the midst of a pandemic could feel overwhelming. The months that have passed have been tough and the weeks ahead seem long. In the midst of tiredness and uncertainty our instinct is to batten down the hatches and take a break. That’s what Jesus is saying in Matthew 11, right?
Jesus invites us to spend time walking with him and working with him - that we watch how he does life in order to find real rest. What if we started each day asking Jesus “What do you want me to do today?” How can I work with you today? What if mission is light, what if it fits, what if it’s Unforced, flowing out of a deeper connection with Jesus, and out of who we are, as we “recover” the life that comes from walking step by step with him?
Giving towards Home Mission helps support churches and new initiatives to bring the good news of Jesus to those around them.
